Tiramisu (Intercontinental Singapore)

This is one Tiramisu you will fall in love on your first bite but take note that this was made upon special request and is only available as a whole.

The cake looks like Mozart Tranche and it is so lovely on its presentation that you will think twice about pushing your fork through. According to wikipedia, the Italian name "Tiramisu", which most knows, is "pick me up" (Tirami su) but it can be translated figuratively as "cheer me up". Aroma's Tiramisu fits both description completely.

Layered beautifully with expresso-soaked savoiardi sponge cake with strong taste of liquor, the combination of mascarpone and whipped cream is just right, not too light nor heavy. Thus, when eating it as a whole, it simply hits your expectation, and viola, a smile on your face. I have no complains over this cake but simply full of praises.

I have to add that the Executive Pastry Chef is very friendly and is willing to customize your cake order. With such great service and attention, presenting their exquisite creations with wonderful taste, what's more can I say, do consider them as one of your choice when looking for a birthday cake.

As usual, Yuan's comments are as follows,
"This is by far the best tiramisu which i have eaten. Just purely on appearance, this tiramisu already won all the rest which i have tried. Particular i like the "chocolate well" which you see on the top layer. Basically it is a depression on the top layer filled with chocolate fudge. Furthermore, there is this mini tiramisu on top of the tiramisu and 2 layers of thin chocolate by the side. You will really hesitate to eat it as it is so lovely.

Moving on to taste. It is somewhat like Bakerzin but with higher alcohol content. Even the combination of mascarpone cheese and lady's finger sponge sponge cake is just right. Excellent texture and slightly moist. All these fulfills my criteria of an excellent tiramisu, both in appearance and taste. This is a must try. "

Hi there,

I'm very sorry about it. That was indeed disastrous, particularly when I put this as a highly recommended tiramisu.

I had this last year and this was through a special request as tiramisu was not available as individual slice. The person who made the tiramisu you saw in this picture was by the Executive Pastry Chef Reinhard Lackner and at that point of time, they needed 3 days in advance. Since we had it dine-in, we had only 2 slices and none of our friends or family had tried it. Thus, the entry is strictly Yuan's and my opinion at that time.

We were pretty confident with our recommendation as we had about 9 tiramisu within a month or so (between August 2008 to September 2008).

This is the chef's email, Reinhard_Lackner@interconti.com and the last time I wrote to him was 26 May 2009. Not sure if he is still with Hotel Intercontinental.

I understand your disappointment and I sincerely hope it did not ruin your birthday celebration. The very last thing I can do is to provide the chef's email so that you can feedback to...

O.o, the cake resembled more to an oreo cheesecake. The mascarpone layer looks so yucky. Looks like my failed attempt of making tiramisu. So different from the one I had.

You might want to email to Hotel Intercontinental with photos of both versions of Tiramisu. I seriously think it is their oversight. How can the standard drop overnight or could there be a mix-up in the first place?

I have tried the tiramisu from ekac.com.sg. Not bad and most prob the entry should be up next week =)

Curious about the hotel's reply too. Hopefully, Chef Reinhard is still with the hotel, he is quite a nice person and prides his bakes greatly.

Hey Fen,

The Hotels are very efficient, Chef Reinhard is very quick to reply..

The hotel offered to refund the amount to me and Chef personally offer me another Tiramisu cake FOC..

They admitted that the cake was not prepared according to their standard and will review on the production procedure for the Tiramisu cake..

Am goin to collect the cake today.. am really looking forward to a Yummilicious Tiramisu cake~~~!

Will feedback and post some photo of the cake! =)

That is nice to hear. Looking forward to your review and the pictures.

*Keeping my fingers crossed*

I really hope it doesn't disappoint this time round.

Anyway, one reason why I like to dine at hotels is their service. I have ever dine in a restaurant which I complain and they told me, you can complain but the person is no longer working. To make it worse, they didn't have an email address to write in.

On the other hand, Singapore hotels has never disappoints and my dining experience has always been memorable. Be it cakes, restaurants and buffets...

Hie people,

It's me again... Sorry for the late feedback.. went to collect the cake from intercon on 9Sept09. The cake look almost the same from outside, but inside..we can clearly see there's 2 layer of soaked savoiardi ...

The taste weren't that fantastic on that night itself..but it is definately much better then the previous..

However, the cake taste really GOOD after 1+ day! Yummy! specially bring it for my mom to taste it (coz she love cakes), she thinks it's yummy too! LOVE the coffee taste... ..the liquor taste ain't that strong though.. can hardly taste it.. given that i dun drink .. still can't taste the liquor.. ^O^"

Besides the liquor part.. the cake is no doubt Yummy!

Yea, have to agree with Fen that the service at Singapore Hotels are really good =)

Will definately get it again ^-^

Saw the entry but I am quite surprised a Mexican restaurant can serve good tiramisu...

I remember Mexicans restaurants to have very good quesadilla , taco and burritos. Come to think about it, I always end up ordering so much drinks and main courses that I neglect their selection of desserts.

Thanks for the recommendation.
