Being a cookie lover, one of the most important factors in a chocolate chip cookie is sufficient amount of chocolate to curb chocolate cravings so this can be done by either large chocolate chunks or simply increase the chocolate content of the cookie dough.

In this case, what Mezza9 does was to increase the chocolate content in the cookie dough, which is stronger than the melted chocolate chips but on the downside, the cookies are sweet, probably additional sugar for the extra crisp and crunch.
