Macarons from Dolci da paolo

Decided to drop by Dolci da Paolo for a good slice of cake and was surprised by the change of selection available at the cafe. Unlike my last visit with Yuan, the cafe has decided to sell packs of macarons, meringue and petite desserts. For those who miss their cakes, they are available at Da Paolo Gastronomia which is near the vicinity.

Macarons

Anyway, couldn't mix and match, either I get a packet of 4 which costs me $10 or a macaron at $2 nett. Very expensive and the flavours are pretty limited. The flavours available in packs of 4 for that day were lavender, matcha, peanut butter and orange while the individually sold one include peanut butter, rose, orange and coffee.

Overall, these are mildly sweetened and have extremely chewy centres (I'm serious, the chewiest ones I have ever come across). Lavender was pretty mild and the cream in the centre was pretty bland but the rose macaron is highly recommended. Its flavour is much stronger than the rose macaron from Canelé and the chewy shells perfect it all.

Just a tip, do eat macarons at room temperature, the sweetness will be at its minimum with the softest possible texture.

4 for $10 still cheaper than what i saw that time (after we went twelve+one and sihan & me dropped by chip bee). the rose is good huh and very chewy?? that i hv to try! anyway $2 ea still cheaper than canele lor, and that shop near my place, that grenier pain dunno wat, they selling $6.20 for 3 and in horrible colors like blue. didn't dare give it a try tho', somemore so ex.

btw, i tried the macarons from icing room. its HORRIBLE!!! i think i tried the choc raspberry, inside the filling is very hard, like raspberry gelee left in the fridge for many days like that. totally bad experience!!

I don't quite get it. Why are the pre-packed ones more expensive than the loose macarons? $2.50 each for the packet ones and $2 each for the individual ones? Shouldn't it be the other way round or are you just paying for packaging?

Evan: Hmm... 4 for $10 is about the same price as Canele since the pricing for Da Paolo is nett...

The rose is good, like the overwhelming fragrance...

I am curious about Grenier @ Sembawang Shopping Centre but it is pretty out of the way, will have to find a time to drop by someday.

Didn't I warn you about the macarons from icing room? hai, never heed my warning...

Ice: That was something puzzling too... but there aren't many flavours for the individual pieces so I suspect this individual ones are either the excess after packing (4 in a pkt) or are basically rejects as some do look ugly...

I read about Grenier from the Business Times sometimes back, have you tried anything from that shop?
What is recommended? I heard that their carolines and mini signature bread is very good.
