Lemon Meringue Pie

We used to have bad impression of lemon meringue tart/pie as we thought it was suppose to be a combination of extreme sweetness and sharp lemony sourishness. My opinion starts to change after trying Aerins' (via Evan's recommendation) and I am ready for this dessert.

Lemon Meringue Pie

Lemon meringue pie ($8.90++), unlike the tart form we had previously, is flat like a pancake. The meringue that is directly on top the lemon filling is extremely fluffly and light. However, we thought that this layer was not torched sufficiently. The lemon curd filling was a pleasant surprise with it being smooth and slightly sour.

In short, we both agree that this gave a totally different perspective of the lemon meringue. Soft pastry skin rather than the crispy tart crust, not-so-sour lemon paste and creamy meringue. For those who dislike the sourness of lemon, this is a good reason to like a lemon meringue pie.

Lastly, nothing to rave about the ice-cream. Although the vanilla fragrance is sufficient, the ice-crystals present in the centre of the scoop was quite a let-down.

Maybe that is the difference between tart and pie? I am not sure...

You know wat, I saw double bay was striked off from your blog's foodie list and I have been anticipating your entry... Later I can't wait and told Yuan I want to eat fish =)

The scallops are so expensive... If my memory didn't fail me, it is close to $20++.

I thought the scallops were 17? ahha. oh well. I thought the lemon meringue pie was really good. But I'm qite sure that was a tart shell, somewhat a sable dough. As it lackd the airy crunch and buttery pores of a normal pie crust. But still, the base was good. And yes, I have to agree that the porportions made it such that the overall wasn't that sour. I thought all was good except for the icecream too!

I'm still thinking about the outing though... hmph..

Evan: Take your time, we enjoy reading whatever you post... Oh yah, Bistro Sense, I recalled the photos on flickr... Now they have a $12 set lunch on weekdays...

Brad's outing sounds good but I can only confirm on Sat... Yuan's dad's birthday is next week... so we have to be sure that there is no clashes... Hopefully, that one will be a dinner... I want to go to Brad's outing too... The tapas sure looks tempting and reasonable...

Sihan: Yea, I checked your HGW review but my vague impression is that it is close to $20, not too sure but I can't resist the desserts so scallops will be on my next visit... Moreover, Yuan is not a scallop lover, hai... basically, he doesn't like seafood...

I thought tart shells are crunchy while pies are softer, no? Anyway, for the base, I thought it would be better crispy since the meringue is soft, the filling is smooth... with a crispy base, the texture will stand out better... Guess its individual preference...

Yea, hopefully we can meet at Brad's outing... Really miss u guys...
