Banana and Mango Crumble...

Although the array of cakes at the entrance looks tempting, our second order was Banana and Mango Crumble, which we thought it might be a refreshing alternative.

Banana Mango Crumble

P.S. cafe's presents this hearty, warm dessert in a delightful manner; stewed mangoes and bananas with a layer of streusel topping, served with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream.

So far, I have come across a couple of streusel-topped desserts with only 2 leaving a deep impression, namely the Strawberry Vanilla Streusel Cake from the Line @ Shangri-la and Granny Smith & Aloe Vera Crumble from Mykii. What makes these 2 good is the light and crunchy strusel toppings with a good mix of fruits.

P.S. cafe has its crumble warm, not overly sweet and of the right texture. However, the mangoes were sliced too thickly and were pretty fibrous, thus the fruits fails to have the "melt-in-your mouth" effect.

Don't ask me about the bananas, I was talking to the duty manager when Yuan finishes the entire dessert so I didn't get to eat the bananas.

Anyway, during the conversion with the duty manager, I understand that this dish has received a number of feedbacks particularly the use of mangoes. P.S. cafe wanted something different from a conventional apple crumble and thus they have sticked to this recipe and have been pretty well-received.

Yuan's comments

The Banana and Mango crumble is really a unique combination for the adventurous. However I must warn readers that mango really isn't suited for a crumble. Mango is simple too smashy when baked. Further I really dislike the spice taste on the crumble.

nice collage dear! love the modern feel to it :D actually for mykii's one, i only liked the crumble itself, the apple + aloe were just overly sweet. i wouldn't mind just eating the crumble + ice cream alone haha.

did u order any main courses at ps?

Oh this dessert has been on PS cafe since forever & it's the only dessert I actually like from here! And I don't even like banana or mango. :) I guess mango is a seasonal fruit so it can't be helped if yours came fibrous. I thought the banana is mixed with the mango no?

Evan: Thank you... I agree with you that crumble and ice-cream is just right, the stewed apples make it overly sweet...

Nope, no main course since Yuan needs to pick up his camera after gym, we will be starving by then... Wanted to try their poached eggs though...

Looks like my entries on P.S. cafe didn't tempt you as much as BakerZin... Think Laurent would be a better bet...

Ice: Just like you, I don't fancy mangoes and bananas... but the crumble is quite nicely done... Not too sweet... There is bananas, just that Yuan finished the entire crumble while I was talking to the duty manager...

yes i'd go for the main courses at ps cafe too, if i get the chance to visit. haha why u say that your entries on ps cafe didn't tempt me as much as bakerzin? can tell meh, i don't even know! but of coz, i think i'm attracted to pretty cakes than anything else, so i'll go for those nice french looking ones, like canele, obolo or bakerzin as compared to the rustic looking ones like an apple crumble or a choc fudge cake :p

oh yes laurent too! if can take photos there + got sweet pleasures, count me in!

btw, doesn't this resemble the nutella squares we had at mykii :

haha, this is the kind i'm referring to.

Hmm... the prob is that they only serve brunch on weekends... The lunch menu does look tempting... Anyway, it is a nice place to chill out...

As for the nutella squares, it does since it doesn't look moist and the frosting seems a little thin...

I miss chocolate fudge cakes... If only there is one right in front of me...

i think the combination sounds delightful though.. banana and mango. haha.

Think i'm opposite of Evan. prefer the more homely desserts to the frenchy type. haha. Can identify with the more familar tastes.. hehe
