Chocolate Banana Espresso from Cedele

During our meeting with Vicki and Sihan at the Pastry Bar, we briefly talked about Cedele's cakes and surprisingly Yuan was curious about Chocolate Banana Espresso while Vicki and Sihan added that Chocolate Banana Espresso is Cedele's signature (apart from Carrot Walnut Cake).

As described by Cedele, Chocolate Banana Espresso is one that will melt in your mouth. This is a soft chocolate cake sandwiched with fresh caramelized banana, topped with espresso chocolate frosting, and finished with crunchy walnut strussel, oat strussel.

Anyway, all sliced cakes from Cedele costs $6 per slice and a cake set which comes with a drink (e.g. iced lemon tea, orange juice).

Personally, I didn't quite enjoy this as much as Yuan so he practically gobbled the entire slice up. Though satisfied, his little belly didn't appreciate those crunches and the heavy dessert... His expression was quite cute though.

The entire combination was just right with a slight doze of coffee, and the caramelized banana chunks goes pretty well with its chocolate sponge. Can't deny the fact that it is one of the better chocolate-banana cakes I have tried. On the downside, I thought the chocolate sponges are similar to Lana chocolate cake which is mildly flavoured with chocolate and that it is a little tad dry.

So far, Cedele's cakes haven't disappoint me. I liked this one for the combination of banana, chocolate mousse and crunchy oats. For those who love the banana nut crunch ceral will definately love this.

No. 11 - Carrot Walnut Cake from Cedele

Yuan and I have never fancy the American-style carrot cake and so far the ones we have tried are pretty disappointing. Generally rough and hard texture, definitely a far fetch from our favourite chocolate fudge cakes... However, we are trying to convince ourselves to identify our favourite 4 carrot cakes and thus the best reference is the 50 yummiest cakes article where 3 are carrot cake.

Being the most convenient among the featured 3, we have decided to drop by Cedele for their best-selling carrot walnut cake. A slice of carrot walnut cake costs $6 nett and $7.80 for their cake set which comes with a drink.

As described by the 50 yummiest cakes, this is
"Cedele's best-selling carrot cake, finished with cream cheese frosting and untoasted walnuts.
Moist and lightly scented with cinnamon"

She Bakes & She Cooks has a better picture of this cake's cross section.

Believe it or not, this is what I call "love at first bite". The cake is surprisingly light and soft. The best part is that it is not sweet and thus not cloying at all. The slightly sweetened cream cheese just compliments perfectly with the carrot sponge.

The overall texture is refreshing and a slice is definitely not enough for us. For the first time, we couldn't believe American carrot cake can taste this good. I am looking forward to Calender's carrot cake next week.

Yuan's comments

I am not a fan of carrot cake but this one is really not bad. You can feel a layer of cream cheese and a faint cinnamon smell. As for the sponge, it is dense and moist which is unlike most carrot cakes. Overall, highly recommended.

Cedele's Chocolate Fudge Cake

This two layered chocolate cake with super rich chocolate fudge is a must-try. It is wildly sought because of its soft texture that oozes seductively when cut into!

Before I continue, I had this cake with my daddy earlier this afternoon but I didn't bring my cammie out thus I got to resort to obtain this picture from a blog, daily musings: the finer things in life.

After eating the famous chocolate fudge cakes in Singapore, I thought this was not too bad. At least, it is chocolately enough with a sufficient layer of chocolate fudge. The thing that the major players win hands down is that Cedele's fudge cake was not moist enough. In terms of chocolate content, it is comparable.

However, daddy didn't think likewise, he thought the amount of baking powder added was too much thus giving a powdery after-taste. In addition, he prefers the chocolate used in Classic cakes and even Cafe Cartel.

So, I wouldn't term this as a "must try" but edible if you happen to pass by Cedele. Ultimately, convenience is also a factor when it comes to curbing cake cravings.
