Located at the lobby level of Concorde Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, the entrance of Melting Pot Cafe has a cake counter to curb our sugar cravings.
Selection of the cakes is pretty decent which includes a good mix of puffs, tarts and cakes and I would say that the freshness is decent given that the cakes are more or less sold out at night.
One thing we notice about the cakes we had in this trip. The serving is huge, much bigger than what we have in Singapore hotels and very few selection of verrine desserts or mousse cakes.
We enjoyed the Mango Mascarpone from 1 Caramel and thus we were curious about Concorde's version of this Mango Mascarpone Cream Cheese dessert.
First impression of this creation was that this fared closer to a mango mousse cake and was our favourite cake among the entire trip. Not overly sweet and when combined with layers of sponge, this is quite a refreshing treat.
Though not very obvious from the photo, the bottom dark greenish layer is actually kueh lapis, which is something we have not come across so far. The contrast is unique and it is no surprise Yuan volunteered to devour everything single bit of it.
We didn't want to go heavy on desserts so we gave their August's special, Hazelnut Obsession, a miss. Instead we had a custard cream puff. The custard cream is pretty much similar to what we have from Beard Papa's Cream Puffs but it disappoints greatly on the tasteless and chewy choux pastry.
Arh, looking at the photo, I do miss the hotel's Suzy Wong aka lychee martini.
