Entering the shop gives a feel of a Malay shophouse due to the choice of colours and the wooden signboard on its main entrance. Though the shop space is not small, there is not seating for dine-in. Those who has visited this place will know about their fast-selling cakes and reservation is a must. Although all the cakes are available in sliced, the variety for each day is limited and dependent on the chef. In short, doesn't mean you have made a reservation, you will get the cake you want. At least for us, Empress Dowanger, Cupid, Destiny and White Symphony were not available last Saturday.
The niche of the Patissier is the incorporation of creativity into tradition. An improvisation to many time-honored techniques passed down by French Patissiers craft a taste which is not extreme but yet exotic.
When you have decided to pay the Patissier a visit, one should not miss their signature, Passionfruit Meringue ($6.00+); a flavourful meringue sponge cake filled with passion fruit mousse, fresh mangoes and strawberries.
Also featured in the Sunday Times 50 yummiest cake, this cake didn't disappoint us the second time. This is very refreshing with fresh slices of mangoes and strawberries. Although the mousse is supposed to be a tangy passionfruit mousse, the mangoes tend to overshadow it. Doesn't matter which fruit it is, in short, we love it and would recommend to readers who wants an alternative to chocolate cakes.
That is not all, the texture of crispy meringue has a melt-in-the-mouth effect and the mousse softens part of it to provide a springy effect. This is something one will not find in other meringues equivalence such as macarons, making it unique and a reason to make a trip to the Patissier to pick up.
As expected we don't just stopped at one cake on each dessert spree, here are the rest of the cakes we have tried on the same visit,
Strawberry shortcake ($6.00+)
Tiramisu ($6.50+)
Chocolate Fudge ($6.50+)
Double chocolate pralines ($6.50+)
Cocoa Napoleon ($6.50+)
Here is the cake catalog of the Patissier 2009, we thought this might be useful for readers to know what they offer.

The cakes are pricey considering the size and their not-so-intricate creations.
Why does the passionfruit meringue look watery?
Yea, given most of the online reviews claiming their cakes to be good and pricey, I can't deny it. These 6 cakes cost more than 40 bucks and were so petite. Their whole cakes are way more expensive than some of the cakes available at hotels. Despite the price, they are still so popular...
Hmm... some of the creations might be common but their passionfruit meringue is worth mentioning, I haven't come across a second equivalence.
The watery portion was not seen in my previous entry, probably hidden beneath the presence of the foil. Although it is watery on the base, the top meringue sheets are still dry and crisp. We chilled the cakes the moment we are back home so the cake was already like this before the photoshoot. Oh, they do provide ice packs, so they were kept cold during our journey home.
i love their passionfruit meringue! one of my family's favourites for birthday cakes.
seeing your photos is making me crave for it again =D
Yea, was surprised how meringue can be... Had a bad impression of meringue when I had those hard and sweet ones from Canele...
If not for the 50 yummiest article, I wouldn't have thought of going to the Patissier... The opening hours are pretty odd for working people...
Glad I stir your cravings... I am tempted by your taiyaki too...
i tried their mango mousse? cant really remember and the one u mentioned passionfruit.
passionfruit is nicer.... but i do find it not worth the price tag. i have tried hotel cakes before and well, some of the hotel cakes are much nicer then theirs. But for pricing, i am not sure because I didnt pay for them.
yes their opening hrs are really very 'unfriendly'
It is very difficult to place orders for the Patissier's sliced cakes and their whole cakes are just too expensive...
I have not tried their mango mousse but passionfruit meringue did impress me...
U r right about hotel cakes, taste good and some hotels provides good discounts after a certain timing...
As for unfriendly timings of the Patissier, not as bad as Lana's. I haven't come across a second bakery with such weird opening hours.
Ordered this cake for my colleague's birthday and almost everybody comes with a common consensus.
This cake is expensive but it wow-ed... In fact, this cake leave such a good impression till some actually asked me for the address of The Patissier.
A 1-kg equivalence cake cost $70+ ($74.90 nett) and since this is below 2kg, delivery is charged at $16.05. Note that advanced payment via credit card is required when ordering cakes from The Patissier.
